Here's my favourite HAY FEVER KIT and why

G&G’s Quercetin Complex

Quercetin is combined with a blend of bromelain, resveratrol, citrus bioflavonoids, vitamin C, vitamin B5 and bromelain. Working in combination with each other this formula creates a cohesive and potent antioxidant.

Quercetin is a natural antihistimine and this bioflavonoid helps to reduce the release of histamine from immune system cells.

Flavonoids work best in combination with each other which is why quercetin has been combined with resveratrol and citrus bioflavonoids. Quercetin's bioavailability is also increased with the help of vitamin B5 and bromelain.

Suitable for vegetarians, vegans, approved kosher and contains no allergens.

Take 1 to 3 capsules daily with a main meal.

Nature's Aid time release vitamin C with bioflavonoids

Although the quercetin complex contains some vitamin C, supplement complexes can only include small amounts to keep the tablets a manageable size so a separate vitamin C supplement is needed.

Vitamin C is a natural antihistamine that supports the immune system and is very anti-inflammatory.

As Vitamin C is water soluble, it can be washed out of the body after a few hours. Natures Aid Time Release Vitamin C is specially coated to ensure slow release of the Vitamin C, therefore keeping it in the body for longer.

Bioflavonoids enhance the effectiveness of Vitamin C and should always be looked for in any vitamin C supplement.

An every day dose would be 1000mg (1g) per day so for combating hay fever symptoms, at least 2000mg (2g) should be taken in divided doses.

Lamberts L-Glutamine 500g

L-Glutamine is an important part of my hay fever kit for two reasons.

First, this amino acid helps support the immune system and reduce inflammation and second, Leaky gut often goes hand in hand with allergies and L-Glutamine is a vital nutrient for repairing and healing the intestinal walls.

So whether you know you have leaky gut or whether you are experiencing allergy symptoms, L-Glutamine is helpful.

Stir a heaped teaspoon (about 5g) into cold water. For best results, drink this on an empty stomach. If leaky gut is a known issue this dosage can be increased to an initial dose of 10g which can be reduced down to 5g as symptoms improve.

Higher Nature MSM (methyl sulphonyl methane)

Patrcik Holford, a leading nutritionist quotes one study where 55 volunteers diagnosed with seasonal allergies were given 1,300mg of MSM twice daily for 30 days.

A significant reduction in symptoms of both the upper respiratory tract (including nasal congestion) and lower respiratory tract (including cough) was seen.

He recommends that as long as you’re still suffering from any allergic symptoms, or are in pain, it’s well worth supplementing MSM on a daily basis.

Take 1-6 tablets a day, with meals, building gradually. Biocare BioAcidophilus

There have been a number of studies on the effects live bacteria supplementation has on allergy symptoms and one that was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that the group given probiotics for 8 weeks saw a 68% improvement in symptoms compared to the placebo group's 19% improvement.

This study used a combination of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria which are both in Biocare BioAcidophilus.

One capsule taken twice daily with food.
